The academic, physical, and mental health benefits of in-person schooling are difficult to replicate through online instruction. Technology enables students to practice interpersonal skills before applying them in the real world. It can provide powerful scaffolded learning opportunities to support children’s development. (Murphy, Cook and Fallo, 2021). Virtual learning requires students to draw from a different skill set than what is used in face-to-face settings, such as self-regulation for navigating online learning, or balancing learning and life at home. Integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in daily lessons can benefit children now working in virtual settings, with activities organized around cognitive regulation, emotional regulation, and social skills.(Kamei, Harriott, 2020).
